The volunteers at Scratching Post Cat Rescue deserve medals Please Help If You Can?

How The Scratching Post Cat Rescue is Saving Lives and Spreading Joy

If you are a cat lover, you probably know how rewarding it is to adopt a furry friend and give them a loving home. But did you know that there are thousands of cats in need of rescue and care in the UK? That’s why I want to tell you about The Scratching Post Cat Rescue, a charity that is doing amazing work to help stray and feral cats in North London, East London, Essex and Hertfordshire.

The Scratching Post Cat Rescue was founded in 2005 by Susan Delaney, who started rescuing cats from her own home. Since then, the charity has grown to have two rescue centres, one in Waltham Abbey and one in Cheshunt, as well as a charity shop in Enfield. The charity relies solely on donations and volunteers, who help with feeding, cleaning, fostering, fundraising, and more13

The Scratching Post Cat Rescue takes in cats of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds, from kittens to seniors, from domestic to feral, from healthy to injured or sick. They provide them with veterinary care, vaccinations, neutering, microchipping, and most importantly, love and attention. They also work hard to find suitable homes for the cats, through their website4 and their Facebook page1, where they post photos and stories of the cats available for adoption.

The charity has helped thousands of cats over the years, and has received many positive feedbacks from the adopters, who share how their new companions have enriched their lives. Some of the success stories include:

  • Molly, a timid cat who was found living under a car, and who now enjoys cuddles and playtime with her new family.
  • Bertie, a handsome black and white cat who was rescued from a hoarding situation, and who now loves to explore and lounge in his new home.
  • Luna, a beautiful tortoiseshell cat who was abandoned by her previous owners, and who now has a best friend in her new sister, another rescue cat.

These are just some of the examples of how The Scratching Post Cat Rescue is making a difference for both cats and humans. If you want to support their work, you can do so in many ways, such as:

  • Adopting a cat from them, if you are looking for a new furry friend.
  • Donating money, food, litter, toys, or other items to the charity, either online or in person.
  • Volunteering your time and skills to help with the daily tasks or the events.
  • Spreading the word about the charity and their cats, by liking and sharing their posts on social media.

By doing any of these, you will be helping The Scratching Post Cat Rescue to continue their mission of saving lives and spreading joy. You will also be joining a community of cat lovers who share the same passion and compassion for these wonderful animals.

Thank you for reading this blog post, and I hope you will check out The Scratching Post Cat Rescue and see for yourself the great work they do. You can find more information on their website4 or their Facebook page1. And remember, adopt, don’t shop!

Why Does My Cat Head Butt Me? Understanding This Feline Gessture

Cats are mysterious creatures, and their behaviours often leave us wondering about their motivations. One such endearing behaviour is the cat headbutt. If you’ve ever experienced your feline friend gently bumping their head against you, you’re not alone. But why do cats engage in this peculiar form of interaction? Let’s delve into the fascinating world of feline communication and explore the reasons behind this adorable behavior.

1. Affection and Bonding

When your cat headbutts you, it’s a sign of affection. Cats have scent glands all over their bodies, with a concentration on their face, lips, paws, and tail base. By rubbing their face against you, they transfer their unique pheromones onto your skin. These pheromones serve as a way to mark you as part of their territory and create a sense of familiarity. Essentially, your cat is saying, “You belong to my scent colony!”

2. Tactile Communication

Headbutting is a form of tactile communication. Just as humans shake hands or hug to express connection, cats use headbutts to create affiliate bonds with other cats and even with their human companions. It’s their way of saying, “I trust you, and we’re part of the same social group.” So, the next time your cat leans in for a gentle headbutt, consider it a heartfelt gesture of friendship.

3. Mutual Grooming and Trust

Cats that headbutt and scent-mark their humans are keeping track of what they consider safe. By sharing their scent with you, they reinforce the bond and trust they feel. It’s akin to mutual grooming among cats, where they clean each other’s fur as an expression of camaraderie. So, when your cat nuzzles your cheek, they’re not only depositing their scent but also seeking reassurance that you’re part of their inner circle.

4. Contentment and Relaxation

Observe your cat closely during a headbutt. You’ll likely notice other relaxed behaviors accompanying it. Before or during the headbutt, your cat may:

  • Purr: A contented cat often purrs during affectionate interactions.
  • Partially Close Their Eyes: Squinting eyes indicate relaxation and trust.
  • Flop Over Playfully: Some cats even roll onto their backs, exposing their belly—a vulnerable position that signifies comfort.

In essence, the headbutt is a holistic expression of your cat’s well-being. It’s their way of saying, “Life is good, and you’re an essential part of it.”

Conclusion

So, the next time your cat lovingly bumps their head against you, embrace it. You’re not just receiving a physical gesture; you’re sharing a moment of trust, affection, and companionship. Cherish these little headbutts—they’re tiny reminders that your feline friend has chosen you as part of their inner circle.

Remember, cats communicate in their unique language, and each headbutt is a silent conversation filled with warmth and connection. So, lean in, reciprocate, and let your cat know that you’re part of their scent colony too.

Why Does My Cat Prefer An Empty Box To Expensive Nests?

Cats are known for their love of boxes, and it’s a phenomenon that has puzzled many cat owners. Here are some reasons why cats love boxes:

  1. Confined spaces: Cats are ambush predators and finding confined places where they can hide, hunt prey and feel safe and warm is an instinctive behavior. Snug cardboard boxes fit the bill perfectly. Boxes provide a sense of security and comfort to cats, which is why they love spending time in them

  2. Warmth: Cardboard boxes are great for warmth! Not only is cardboard an amazing insulator, but the small space that boxes offer encourages your cat to curl up and relax, making it a comfy, warm space. The ideal temperature for cats to be comfortable is around 37 ° C, so being warm is very important for your feline

  3. Curiosity: Cats are notoriously curious creatures, so it should come as no surprise that whenever you buy something new they make a beeline for it to investigate. Boxes are no exception. They are a new object in the environment and cats are naturally drawn to them

  4. Hunting: A cat’s instincts to hide and pounce in order to capture its prey is another reason why boxes are so appealing to them. Boxes provide a perfect hiding spot for cats to stalk their prey and pounce when the time is right

  5. Adaptation: A recent study conducted by the University of Utrecht discovered that cats with boxes actually recovered faster and adapted to their environment quicker. This shows that boxes are incredibly beneficial for cats to help deal with change

In conclusion, cats love boxes because they provide a sense of security and comfort, warmth, and a place to hide and hunt. They are also naturally curious creatures and are drawn to new objects in their environment. So, if you want to keep your cat happy, give them a cardboard box to play with.

Beware of Puppy Selling Scams: Protecting Your Heart and Wallet

Introduction

Puppies bring joy, companionship, and love into our lives. It's no wonder that many people look to add a furry friend to their family. However, with the increasing demand for puppies, there has been a surge in puppy-selling scams that can leave potential pet owners heartbroken and financially drained. In this blog post, we'll explore the world of puppy-selling scams and provide you with tips on how to protect yourself and find a legitimate furry companion.

  1. Recognizing the Red Flags

The first step in protecting yourself from puppy selling scams is to be aware of the common red flags. Here are a few signs that should raise your suspicions:

  1. Unrealistically Low Prices: If a puppy is being offered at a significantly lower price than what is typical for the breed, it's a major red flag.

  2. No In-Person Visits: Sellers who refuse to allow you to visit and interact with the puppy in person may be hiding something.

  3. Urgent Sales Tactics: Scammers often use high-pressure tactics, claiming that you need to buy immediately to secure the puppy.

  4. Sketchy Payment Methods: Be cautious if the seller insists on wire transfers, gift cards, or other unconventional payment methods.

  5. Lack of Information: A reputable breeder will be happy to share information about the puppy's medical history, vaccinations, and more. Scammers may avoid these questions.

  6. Do Your Research

Before considering purchasing a puppy, take the time to research the breed you are interested in and the reputable breeders associated with it. Visit breed-specific forums and communities, and seek recommendations from friends and family who have had positive experiences with breeders.

  1. Verify the Breeder

When you find a breeder, it's essential to verify their legitimacy. Ask for references and contact past customers to inquire about their experiences. A legitimate breeder should be registered with national or local breed clubs and associations. You can also check for online reviews and ratings, but keep in mind that scammers can create fake profiles, so be discerning.

  1. Ask for Documentation

Reputable breeders will provide all necessary documentation for the puppy, including vaccination records, health certificates, and pedigree papers. If a seller hesitates to provide these documents, proceed with caution.

  1. Visit in Person

Whenever possible, visit the breeder in person. This is the best way to ensure that the puppies are raised in a clean and loving environment and to meet the parents. Scammers often make excuses to avoid in-person visits.

  1. Be Skeptical of Online Ads

Online platforms are a common breeding ground for puppy scams. If you find a puppy for sale online, be extra cautious. Use well-known websites and platforms, and always follow the same precautions as with any other transaction.

  1. Report Suspected Scams

If you encounter what you believe to be a puppy selling scam, report it to the appropriate authorities. This can help prevent others from falling victim to the same scheme.

Conclusion

While the idea of bringing home a new puppy is exciting, it's essential to be cautious when searching for one. Puppy selling scams can leave you not only heartbroken but also financially devastated. By being aware of the red flags, doing your research, and taking the necessary precautions, you can protect yourself and find a legitimate, loving companion for your family. Remember that a little extra effort on the front end can save you from a lot of heartache down the road.

Do Cats Choose Us To Be Their Owners?

Cats, with their mysterious and independent nature, have been captivating human hearts for centuries. They are known for their ability to form unique and deep bonds with their human companions. But do cats actually choose their owners, or is it merely a result of circumstance and convenience? In this blog post, we will explore the intriguing world of feline-human relationships to better understand the dynamics at play.

The Mysterious Nature of Cats

Cats have long been associated with enigmatic behavior and an independent spirit. Unlike dogs, who are often seen as loyal and eager to please, cats tend to be more selective in their social interactions. This has led many to believe that cats simply tolerate the presence of humans for the sake of food and shelter. However, there is much more to the story.

Understanding Cat Behaviour

To grasp the concept of cats choosing their owners, we need to delve into cat behaviour. Cats are territorial animals and have an innate need for a safe and comfortable space. When they choose to share their territory with a human, it's a significant sign of trust and attachment.

Cats are also social creatures, although they may not show it in the same way dogs do. They have their unique ways of bonding with their human companions, which include purring, kneading, and head-butting. These actions are often interpreted as signs of affection and attachment.

The Choice to Bond

While cats might not be as overtly affectionate as dogs, they do make conscious choices about the people they want to bond with. Cats tend to gravitate toward individuals who respect their boundaries and provide a sense of security. This choice often extends beyond the simple provision of food and shelter.

Cats are highly attuned to human emotions and can sense when their owners are stressed, anxious, or upset. In these moments, they may offer comfort and companionship, showcasing their ability to choose to support their owners emotionally.

The Role of Trust

Trust is a crucial factor in a cat's decision to bond with a particular person. Cats are more likely to choose someone they feel comfortable around and can trust. Trust-building activities, such as gentle petting and quiet, quality time together, can reinforce the bond between a cat and its owner.

Additionally, cats often choose their owners by seeking out their company, following them around the house, or even curling up on their laps. These actions indicate a desire for closeness and a strong preference for a specific human companion.

Conclusion! Do Cats Choose Their Owners?

While the complex nature of cat behavior may lead some to believe that cats merely tolerate their owners, a deeper look reveals that cats do indeed choose their human companions. Cats form bonds with those who provide trust, respect, and emotional support, going beyond the basic necessities of food and shelter. The intricate dance of feline-human relationships showcases the profound connection that can develop between these enigmatic creatures and their devoted owners.

So, the next time your cat curls up beside you or purrs contentedly in your lap, remember that it's not just circumstance or convenience at play—it's a conscious choice made by your feline friend to be with you, proving that cats are more than just independent creatures; they are loving and discerning companions in their own right.
